The North Yorkshire Youth Justice Service is an established and successful countywide multi-agency partnership, responsible for preventing youth crime and reducing re-offending. We are currently seeking an experienced professional case manager to join our Eastern area team, based in Scarborough.

We provide a range of services to young offenders and their families, as well as to the victims of youth crime. This includes preventative project work with younger children, early diversion of first-time young offenders, community-based rehabilitation of convicted young people, and intensive management of high-risk young people.

We are looking for a committed, flexible and creative professional, preferably with a qualification in Social Work, Probation, Youth Work or an equivalent field. Positive engagement & motivation skills gained through previous experience of working with troubled young people are essential. The Youth Justice Service uses an electronic case management database. Applicants must therefore have the ability to deliver professional standards of casework within a structured assessment system, including good case recording and keyboard skills.

You will manage a mixed caseload of young people, ensuring that each of them receives high standards of assessment & intervention, and that our safeguarding & public protection duties are fully met. The successful applicant will enjoy high standards of training and managerial support, and a supportive working team environment within well-equipped offices. Flexible working is positively supported to meet the needs of our service users and staff. The post is to cover maternity leave for a period of up to 12 months. The North Yorkshire Youth Justice Service (YJS) is an established and successful countywide multi-agency partnership, responsible for preventing youth crime and reducing re-offending. We provide a range of services to young people and their families, as well as to the victims of youth crime. This includes early diversion of first time young offenders, community-based rehabilitation of convicted young people, and intensive management of high-risk young people

We are looking for a committed, flexible and creative professional. A professional qualification in Social Work, Probation or an equivalent field is desirable but not essential. Previous experience of working with troubled or challenging young people and a full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle for work purposes are essential, as your duties will include work in rural locations away from the main office base. (The Team covers Harrogate/Craven/Northallerton and Richmond)

Reparation work is undertaken by young people who offend as part of their YJS programmes either through involvement in group-based community projects or by providing reparation directly to the victim/s.

You will be responsible for establishing, planning, assessing, managing and publicising reparation projects in partnership with community groups, public services and businesses, with the key purpose of enabling young people to make amends for their behaviour directly or indirectly.

Although reparation projects will be primarily supervised by YJS volunteers, it is essential that applicants have a practical/hands-on approach, and are able to work confidently and flexibly in a wide range of settings. This will sometimes include direct work with challenging young people.
