Prevention > Arson Prevention
The Fire Service in North Yorkshire
attends over a thousand deliberate fires each year.
Many of these are started by young people involved
in anti-social behaviour
who have no concept of how serious the consequences
can be.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service run several
initiatives for young people which are aimed at
reducing arson:
Any young person can be referred to this scheme using a 24 hour free phone number 0800 074 0064 and completing a simple referral form over the phone.
The young person will then be visited by trained fire officers who will work with them around the possible consequences of setting deliberate fires.
LIFE (Local Intervention Fire Education)
The LIFE project is an intensive, week long, practical course held on fire stations around North Yorkshire. Young people aged 13-19 can be referred to this course which aims to address the consequences of anti-social behaviour, particularly targeting arson and car crime.
Arson Reduction Days
The Fire Service will also provide Arson Reduction days at fire stations for groups of young people which will include a mixture of practical and classrooms sessions to address the consequences of arson.
